About the role

£13.62 per hour including holiday entitlement

Our young carers team deliver fun and issue-based activities to children and young people across Surrey.  These include youth groups, visits to activity centres, bowling alleys, climbing centres, sports centres and schools.   We are looking for enthusiastic sessional youth workers to support these activities.  You will enjoy working in a variety of settings and participating in a wide range of activities from kayaking to building go karts.

Whilst there are regular opportunities for work throughout the year, the time commitment is low, our sessional youth workers tend to work 2 or 3 times a month, during evenings, weekends and school holidays at times and locations to suit them.  The role itself is incredibly rewarding!

 Key Duties / Responsibilities

  • work creatively to support young people to get involved and have fun!
  • assist with setting up the activity and ensuring the venue is safe to use.
  • greet the children and young people and their parents at the start of the activity.
  • actively participate, leading games and icebreakers.
  • support children and young people with additional needs.
  • support the end of the activity, ensuring a safe handover and debrief.

Skills / experience:

  • be experienced in working with children and young people.
  • be able to actively participate in a range of activities, including sports and games.
  • be able to effectively engage with young carers who have additional needs or are shy or anxious.
  • be available to work evenings, weekends and during the school holiday period.
  • be confident in raising in safeguarding concerns or issues.
